   This question is for Homebrew users. I'm quite new to the Homebrew Channel and I was wondering if its Legal. What can you do on the channel and can you play ROMs and Imported ROMs on it?      Wow. That's a lot of questions! Let's see if I can answer them one at a time:

     #1) Is it legal? Well, considering what goes on inside the Wii in order to get the channel onto the Wii to begin with, it's not exactly following your terms of service by any means. I use my Wii to watch movies more than anything, quite frankly. It's nice to be able to shove a move, or a season of The Office or Lost onto a jump drive, and just watch it straight from that.

     So, I suppose it's not legal - since people can play burned copies of games, and such. It falls under the same category as Jailbreaking an iPhone. Everyone does it, the company tries to get rid of it under the table, because coming out and saying "Hey! Don't do this!" would just spark more people's interests in it.

     Yes, by using the "Homebrew Browser", you can access emulators and such for legacy consoles.

     Adding Wii themes is possible, but has a VERY likely chance of bricking your Wii, and is highly frowned upon.

     No, the homebrew wont hurt your gaming. You can have alternate game launchers that enable the usage of Ocarina Codes. Think of Ocarina as gameshark, if that makes more sense. Yes, you can use cheats on Wii games - but not for Virtual Console games. That would require you running an emulator instead.

     Just don't use any programs that don't have an explanation attached. If it's a mainstream app, you'll know. Just keep a cool head, and read what others say about certain homebrew apps, and you'll be just fine.

   Ok already had it working before 4.0 but now I updated and put it on the sd channel where u can launch downloaded games and such, but now the homebrew channel doesn't work is there a way to get it working again?

     Since you have 4.0, the twilight hack method of installing the Homebrew Channel won't work any more and never will. Recently, the hackers have come up with an other exploit called Bannerbomb that will install homebrew on 4.0 and any firmware lower. I myself haven't used it, but from user comments, it does seem to work. Bannerbomb works by using a malformed banner to crash the Wii and load the boot.dol file in the root of the SD card which will install the homebrew. In some ways, this installer is better than the twilight hack, as you don't need to have a copy of Zelda Twilight Princess to start in the installer. You can get instructions on how to use Bannerbomb on wiibrew.org.

     Also, remember that if you transfer the homebrew channel onto the SD, it won't work any more as the way the Wii boots things of the SD card is by temporally copying it to the Wii then it boots it. Because Nintendo is trying to stop homebrew, they have blocked the homebrew channel from being copied back to the Wii

    I'm going to college and I'm gonna be very limited on space, so I need my Wii to play dvds as well as use its currently installed channels, such as Netflix, Disc Channel, etc. I'm moving into my dorm on Saturday, so I really need to get this done as soon as possible. I don't have any of the games that I've seen people use to hack their Wii, nor do I have ready access to them.       First of all, you'll need to use the Letterbomb exploit ( http://wiibrew.org/wiki/LetterBomb ) to get the HackMii Installer running on your Wii to install the Homebrew Channel.

      Second, you'll need a homebrew media player that includes DVD-Video Support. I recommend Wii MC ( http://www.wiimc.org ) for this as it has a graphical interface.

    I have got the homebrew channel and have manged to put the usb loader onto it in the "Apps" file on my sd card and the homebrew channel picks it up like on the video, but first i need to run the custom firmware... cIOS36_rev9-Installer... The file came as a cIOS36_rev9-Installer.doll file which is right and came in a folder but i dont have a clue where to put the folder on my sd card so the homebrew channel can pick it up like on the video and whether i just put the file on the sd card or folder. Do i have to rename the file to boot.dol and where abouts on my sd card do i put it?

    How can I fix error 002 on my soft-modded Nintendo Wii?
    I have a soft-modded Wii that I use to run homebrew applications, but I recently decided I'd try using it to boot Wii games from DVD backups. I have tried using many different backup launcher's such as Gamma, GeckoOS and Starfall, but I keep getting error 002 when I try to run one of my games. I have the version of Gamma that supposedly bypasses this error, and I also have CIOS36 rev 7 that is needed to use Gamma properly, but I am still having no luck. I have tried using Gamma to run my normal copies, and it runs them fine. I have no idea where I am going wrong, as it appears to be loading the game up until the point where I get error 002. Does anyone know what error 002 is and how I can fix it?

      you're going to need somthing like usb loader 1.4 it will allow you to play games off a usb/sd if it is formatted to wbfs. to format it go to wbfsmanager.codeplex.com download wbfs manager, install it, format it, and add the iso to you're sd card. please note that the wii will only be able to read it with usb loader 1.4 if you would like to have a complete tutorial on how to do this go to

      Alright..

      If you have only done the letterbomb exploit and nothing else, you need to trucha patch IOS36, then install cIOS.

      If you've followed a guide to softmod, do not repeat anything you have already done.

      When you installed the Homebrew channel with the hackmii installer, you should have also installed bootmii. If not, run the installer again and install it.
      If you have an older Wii you should be able to install bootmii as boot2. If you have a newer Wii (2008+) you will only be able to install bootmii as an IOS.

      I'd suggest installing priiloader. It can help save your Wii if you have a NAND back-up. (if you could only install bootmii as an IOS) As well as block disc updates and some other cool things;

    How can I install a USB Loader on a Wii with firmware 4.3U?
    For the last couple of years, I've avoided performing any official Nintendo firmware updates on my Wii, as I run a lot of homebrew applications, including a USB Loader that allows me to play Wii games stored on a hard drive. Official Nintendo updates can reverse such things.

    But, my roommate's daughter recently brought home a physical copy of Epic Mickey and played it on my Wii without asking. The game required her to perform a firmware update to version 4.3U, which erased the Homebrew Channel and negated use of my USB Loader.

    I'm not dumb when it comes to these things, but not a tech guru either (the only way I got Homebrew set up in the first place was by reading a VERY detailed tutorial). I've managed to get the Homebrew Channel reinstalled (via the SmashStack hack) and get custom firmware installed. But I've tried a couple of different USB Loaders and I simply can't get them to work.

    Can someone offer me some advice of where to go from here? Can someone find me another detailed (and easy for beginners to understand) tutorial? I can't get anything to work and it's kind of angering.

    I updated my Wii to Wii Menu 4.3, and all my Homebrew content was saved, but they do not run. Why is this so?
    Today(November 2nd, 2010) was my sister's birthday, so we got her Kirby's Epic Yarn. The thing was, I had to update to Wii Menu 4.3, in order to play the game. I let her update and told her I'll figure something out. 20 minutes after the update completed, the Wii reset itself, which is normal, I understand. HOWEVER, all my Homebrew content-- such as The Homebrew Channel-- are still there! I figured they'd probably still run.

    NOW, let me clarify, I've bought 3 copies of Super Mario Galaxy. The first one stopped working, the second one stopped working, and the 3rd one stopped working. They ALL stayed in their boxes, where they're safe, yet they STILL stop working. I figured "if this keeps happening, I'm not gonna keep benefitting to Nintendo!", so I went and download Backup Launcher for the Wii. Everything worked just fine, until I updated. Now the game REFUSES to run! This is frustrating because I'm not going out to buy ANOTHER COPY of Mario Galaxy JUST so it can stop working again!

    Please help me. I'm really, really annoyed with this.

      Don't panic. As long as you have the latest Homebrew Channel version 1.0.8 installed, you'll probably be fine. However, backup launchers and USB loaders usually use things that are wiped out by a 4.3 system update, such as a CIOS required by the backup launcher you're using.

      To fix it, completely reinstall whatever CIOS and backup launcher you were using previously. As long as Homebrew Channel 1.0.8 is installed, you should be able to go through the process again. But remember to look for updated versions of everything you install, since they often get better and more compatible with later system versions. Good luck!

    I have a pal wii (4.2e) with a wiikey 2 that i have updated to 1.3. I have 2 backed up games. one older game that plays fine. and a newer game (alice in wonderland). This game wii not boot in the wii disc channel. I know it is not down to the media as where i got them use good quality dvd-r at 4x and other games work from this place.       I know you probably have your heart set on an Xbox. But it really isn't worth all of this, or even any PS3. I have had both since release, I have both slim. The xbox is full of little kids and 40 year old loners, and the people are extremely rude and will curse at you on the mic even if you dont say a word.
